LED lighting has become increasingly popular in recent years, but Liebowitz recognized that there were limitations to traditional LED designs. LEDs emit light in a 180-degree arc, trapping light output and leading to higher operating temperatures and shorter lifespan. With Proteus, Liebowitz set out to find a solution that would maximize light output and control temperature, resulting in a longer lifespan for the light source.
What sets Proteus apart from other lighting systems is its versatility and expandability. The system consists of various LED lighting options that can be added during factory production and then delivered to the site for installation. The unique two-part extrusion design allows for easy assembly, maintenance, and future system expansion. Currently, Proteus includes options for visible light communications (VLC), security cameras, audio modules, and even moving LED text messaging.
The extrusion itself serves as a heatsink, efficiently removing waste heat from the LED chip and PCB. This ensures cooler operating temperatures for all components, resulting in a longer lifespan. The multipurpose lens can be customized with a clear, diffusing, or opal finish, allowing for various lighting effects and moods.
Proteus offers a range of technical specifications to suit any project. With dimensions of up to 4000mm in length, 80mm in width, and 124mm in height, the system can be tailored to fit any space. The extrusion can be finished in any feasible color, and the addition of light management films and different light sources allows for endless possibilities.
But Proteus is not just about lighting. The system can be seamlessly integrated into the site's electrical system, allowing for automatic control from the building control center. Individual control of specific sections is also possible, thanks to handheld remotes or enabled smartphones. This level of control opens up a world of possibilities, from creating different ambient effects to maximizing energy savings.
The Proteus project started in Sydney in May 2014 and was completed in January 2015. However, Liebowitz continues to work on expanding the capabilities of the system, keeping up with the rapidly changing and developing technology in the lighting industry. Ongoing research and development ensure that Proteus remains at the forefront of innovation.
Recognized for its groundbreaking design, Proteus was awarded the prestigious A' Design Award in 2015. This accolade acknowledges Proteus as a well-designed, practical, and innovative creation that meets professional and industrial requirements. With its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, Proteus contributes to a better world.
Proteus is not just a lighting system; it is a game-changer. With its unique design, expandability, and innovative features, Proteus is set to transform the way we illuminate and communicate in the modern world.
